Erich Accepts Minister of Music Award

A few months ago I received a letter in the mail stating that I was nominated for an award by the Adventist Musicians Guild. The “Guild” is an extension of the Seventh-Day Adventist church, of which I’m also a member. The awards ceremony took place at the world headquarters last Sunday, April 27, just outside of Washington, D.C. Although I felt completely out of place among organ PhD’s, violin solos, and band conductors, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I won the category of “Minister of Music.” The moment was quite gratifying and came at just the right time, as we had played a somewhat depressing show the night before in NYC. I’m thankful that the church recognizes my commitment to Jesus and my commitment to bring hope and empowerment to human beings through music. It is a testimony to their spiritual maturity and to their willingness to see beyond generational and cultural boundaries.
